Playback teatro metodas yra artimas psichodramos metodui, taip pat turi forumo teatro elementų. Vedantysis kalbina žiūrovus, „ištraukia“ iš jų emociją ar istoriją ir nurodo aktoriams, kokia teatro forma atspindėti tai, ką jaučia žiūrovas. Tokiu būdu žiūrovai scenoje kaip veidrodyje išvysta savo jausmus. Po pasirodymo skiriama laiko pokalbiui su žiūrovais.
